Allison E. Boyrer, EdD, MS, BSN, RN is a registered nurse, nurse educator, and health equity leader serving as the U.S. Health Literacy Association’s Region 9 Coordinator. Dr. Boyrer currently works at UCLA Health as a Nursing Professional Development Practitioner, where she leads and supports ongoing professional development initiatives, promotes health literacy awareness, and trains and mentors nursing staff in using evidence-based, health-literate best practices when delivering patient education. Through this work, she equips clinicians with the skills and resources needed to deliver world-class, patient-centered care and to use the best available tools to support effective, equitable patient education. With more than two decades of experience across academic, federal, and clinical healthcare systems—including leadership roles within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs—Dr. Boyrer brings deep expertise in organizational health literacy, workforce development, and evidence-based education. She holds a Doctor of Education in Leadership for Educational Equity, Executive Leadership and is nationally recognized for advancing clear communication, equitable care delivery, and policy-informed practice that empowers both patients and healthcare professionals. She enjoys spending time with her family (both human and fur babies) experiencing new things and making memories.
